Member Spotlight: Bakadi Patient BEYA, RD, MBA

This month, in honour of Diabetes Awareness Month, we are proud to spotlight an inspiring public health trailblazer in the BHPN community: Bakadi Patient BEYA. With a deep commitment to health equity and community-centered care, Bakadi is transforming how chronic diseases, especially diabetes, are understood, prevented, and managed across continents.

Bridging Public Health, Technology, and Community Care

As a seasoned Technical Advisor in Nutrition and Health, Bakadi works with the Ministry of Health and Population in the Central African Republic to design national strategies that enhance nutrition outcomes, strengthen healthcare systems, and empower vulnerable populations.

But his work does not end there.

Driven by a passion to make healthcare accessible and inclusive, in 2017 Bakadi founded Kuishi Smart, a nonprofit organization operating in Toronto, Kigali, and Kinshasa. Kuishi Smart is redefining how communities prevent and manage non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, obesity, and hypertension. By using digital health platforms, mobile clinics, and community education, Kuishi Smart delivers care designed to meet people where they are and address the social and structural determinants of long-term wellbeing.

Empowering Sustainable Health Systems

With a multidisciplinary background spanning public health, nutrition, humanitarian response, and systems management, Bakadi has played a critical role in advancing evidence-based health reforms and nutrition governance at the national level. His leadership has guided multisectoral teams in building health systems that are not only effective and accountable but also resilient in the face of crisis and inequity.

Under his guidance, initiatives such as Health Africa Access have made early screening, chronic disease care, and diabetes education possible for underserved populations, especially in regions where infrastructure and resources are limited. His work highlights the importance of merging policy, innovation, and compassion in global health.

The Journey Behind the Mission

Bakadi holds a degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from Toronto Metropolitan University, an MBA, and a certification in Humanitarian and Emergency Project Management from Bioforce France. His career spans leadership roles in health system development, emergency response, teaching, and multi-country program design. Whether he is speaking in boardrooms or rural clinics, Bakadi remains deeply grounded in his goal of empowering individuals and transforming health outcomes through culturally relevant care.

“True healthcare transformation begins with empowerment. Each time someone gains the knowledge or access they need to manage their health, we move one step closer to equity.”

A Champion of Health Equity and Innovation

Across every role including advisor, founder, educator, and advocate, Bakadi relentlessly champions health innovation rooted in community wisdom. He is a living example of what it looks like to combine vision with action, policy with people, and purpose with impact.

As a member of BHPN, Bakadi joins a growing collective of Black leaders using their expertise to elevate healthcare systems, advance health justice, and empower future generations.

Congratulations, Bakadi

We are deeply inspired by your journey and grateful for the transformative impact you are making in the fight against diabetes and chronic disease. Thank you for your leadership, heart, and commitment to health equity. We cannot wait to see what you accomplish next.
